Brooklyn

New York, United States of America

Brooklyn is New York City's most populous borough with 2.5 million residents, and second largest in area. It is also the western most County on Long Island. Since 1896, Brooklyn has had the same boundaries as Kings County, which is now the most populous county in New York State and the second most densely populated county in the United States, after New York County.

  • Unfortunately, during the years I was there, a lot of cocaine began showing up, and that helped to bring down the whole New York and Brooklyn club scene, mainly because it became increasingly hard to deal with some of the talent, while others began to taste real success and lost interest in the club. George was old, tired, divorced, and eventually got fed up with some of the younger kids who wanted in but who, to him, just didn’t have it. As time went on, talent got less and less, and that made it more difficult to make the club work. An enormous dark side developed that clung to Pips like a suckerfish, when a couple of the regular comics, Adam Keefe and Bernie Travis, whose careers weren’t going anywhere, committed suicide. They were two promising but troubled comedians whose untimely deaths cast a deep shadow over the club.
