  • We finished recording in August. Hans had promised he would find an “A-list mixer,” and we got a call from Bob Clearmountain, the best-known mix engineer in the world. His discography is a parade of mega-smashes, including “Start Me Up” by the Rolling Stones, “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen, “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge, “Rock the Casbah” by the Clash, and “Good Times” by Chic. By early September, we found ourselves in the lush hills west of Hollywood, reclining on the chairs around Bob Clearmountain's swimming pool and listening through the open sliding-glass doors as he mixed our album in his state-of-the-art home studio. Hans, who flew out from New York for the mix sessions, was feeling good about the record.
